The WD TV was a consumer device produced by Western Digital that played videos, images, and music from USB drives or network locations. The device was introduced in 2008 and played high-definition video through an HDMI port, and standard video through composite video cables. The device had support for most common video and audio formats. The WD TV was discontinued as of August 2016.

5) MyBook Live is a huge step forward, but bear with the industry. It is getting better, and the emerging standards will converge. iTunes/AirPlay is NOT DLNA, it is Apple's own protocol. I am betting that a firmware update on WD's side, or perhaps an update on Apple TV / iOS end, will eventually support both or a newer inclusive protocol.

It has a WD To Go App, but that's only for the My Book Live. We'll admit, at this price, the only streamer with a smartphone app is the Apple TV and its nonetheless excellent AirPlay feature is WD TV Live HD Media Player-This is the original version that launched in 2009.
